Normal Entry

To qualify for normal entry into the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and Development Honours Degree programme, a candidate, in addition to satisfying the minimum conditions as prescribed under the General Regulations and the Faculty Regulations for English and Mathematics at ‘O’ Level, must have obtained at least any two passes at ‘A’ level in the following subjects Agriculture, Mathematics, Economics, Management of Business, Sociology, Geography and Biology with Diploma in Agriculture being an added advantage or equivalent relevant qualification

Persons who are at least 25 years of age for males and 23 years for females on the first day of the academic year in which admission is sought and who are not eligible for entry under either the Normal or the Special Entry regulations may apply for Mature Entry provided that:
- Such applicants have passed at least five (5) approved ’O’ level subjects including English Language and Mathematics. Applicants must have demonstrated potential suitability for university studies by virtue of their attainments and/or relevant work experience;
- Normally, such applicants should have completed their full-time school or college education at least five years before the start of the academic year in which admission is sought.
Applicants who wish to be considered under the Mature Entry provisions may be required to attend interviews and/or special tests at the University designed to assess their command of the English Language, numerate and reasoning ability and general suitability for admission to Bachelor’s degree studies;
Applicants who have previously attended Mature Entry tests and/or interviews without success will not be considered for admission under this form of entry unless in the intervening period they have acquired relevant additional qualifications and/or experience.

Candidates who have successfully completed a National Diploma in Agriculture or have obtained equivalent qualifications will normally be exempted from Level I on a module- by module basis.
Normally a candidate may not complete the degree in less than three academic levels.
Successful completion of Work-Related Learning component at Level III is compulsory for all students

To qualify for the block Release programme, a candidate, in addition to satisfying the minimum requirements as prescribed in the general and faculty regulations for English at ‘O’ Level, must have;
- At least any two ‘A’ Level passes in the following subjects Agriculture, Mathematics, Economics, Management of Business, Sociology, Geography and Biology with Diploma in Agriculture being an added advantage or equivalent relevant qualification.
- Proof of employment in Agribusiness, Banking, Development Agencies and any other relevant field.
General provisions for the four-year degree programme apply except for work related learning which runs concurrently with the second level of studies.
The programme is normally three years.

Objectives

The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and Development Honours Degree is a four-year program (3 years for block release program). Through this program graduates will acquire the required skills and competencies to conduct research, prepare reports, or formulate plans to address economic problems related to the production and distribution of goods and services or monetary and fiscal policy.
The programme will address the demand of agricultural economics techniques and development analysis in the areas of sustainable food production, natural resource management and overall economic growth.
The program aims to develop a multi skilled graduate who is able to adapt to any working environment in the nation and agribusiness sector.
To develop a graduate who is enterprising and innovative, dynamic and result oriented.
