To qualify for entry into the Master of Science in Tourism and Hospitality Management degree, a student should:
- Have a have a minimum of a 2.2 Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree classification in Tourism and Hospitality Management or an equivalent qualification. Applicants with two or more years working experience in the industry will have an added advantage,
- Candidates with a third class first degree are required to attend an interview to assess their competence.
- An applicant who does not meet normal entry requirements will be admitted into a programme on special grounds, subject to the approval of the senate.
Career Prospects
Graduates from the MTHM (Tourism and Hospitality Management) will be specialists who can pursue managerial careers such as being Managing Directors, Hospitality and tourism, Chief Operating Officers and General Managers in private, public sectors and non-profit making organizations.
Objectives
The programme aims to equip tourism and hospitality industry personnel with skills that enhance tourism development in the increasingly complex environment and continued internet of things altering tourists’ trends. The objectives of the programme are;
- To hone and sharpen students’ skills in life-long learning, innovation, entrepreneurship and industrialization;
- To equip students with in-depth knowledge and advanced competencies to strategically operate and or manage any organisation in the tourism and hospitality industry;
- To develop sound conceptual, technical, and analytical and communication skills required to address any challenges in the management of tourism and hospitality establishments. To this effect, a Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach will be employed to enhance the students’ trouble shooting management, and
- To impart ICTs knowledge and its application in the tourism industry

“Welcome to the Tourism and Hospitality department at the Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences. The department is the only Tourism and Hospitality education whose curriculum aims to develop a balanced multi-skilled industrial-guided tourism, travel and hospitality competence. As an emerging department, its programme balances research, teamwork, education and training in typical entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial approaches throughout the teaching and learning processes and procedures (mechanism).
