Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) challenged its new first-year students to embrace discipline, integrity and excellence during the August 2026 Orientation Programme held on 4 August 2026 at the Fernhill Campus in Mutare.

The orientation is being held under the theme “Building Integrity, Transforming Communities: Developing Purpose-Driven Graduates for Education 5.0 Excellence.”

Whilst welcoming the students, MSUAS Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Upenyu Guyo congratulated them on earning a place at MSUAS and encouraged them to make the most of their academic journey.

He urged students to embrace the University’s core values of integrity, excellence, professionalism, innovation, teamwork and respect, both on and beyond campus.

“Attend your lectures consistently, engage actively with your lecturers, make full use of the library, laboratories, digital learning platforms, and cultivate disciplined study habits from your very first day,” said Prof Guyo.

Professor Guyo also encouraged students to participate in clubs, sporting and cultural activities, community programmes and leadership opportunities as part of their development beyond the classroom.

Whilst speaking on student conduct and discipline, MSUAS Deputy Registrar Academic Affairs, Dr Jerry Chifimbo, emphasised that talent and intelligence alone cannot guarantee success.

“Discipline has a multiplier effect, talent on its own can go to waste if you do not practise and remain disciplined, and the same applies to academic work,” said Dr Chifimbo.

Dr Chifimbo introduced students to Ordinance No. 2, which governs student conduct and discipline, and reminded them that they are expected to uphold the University’s standards both on and off campus.

He warned students against misconduct including violence, intimidation, disruption of university activities, misuse or damage of property, online bullying and behaviour that could bring the University into disrepute.

The new students were also encouraged to make responsible choices about their friendships and peer groups, as these relationships can influence their character, conduct and future.

The session formed part of MSUAS’ efforts to equip new students with the knowledge, values and responsibilities required to navigate university life successfully.

As MSUAS celebrates its 10th anniversary, the University is encouraging its newest students to build strong foundations through discipline, integrity, academic excellence and purposeful participation in university life.
