MSUAS Launches Staff Mental Health and Wellness Programme
Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) has launched a comprehensive Staff Mental Health and Wellness Programme.
The initiative marks a strategic shift in the University’s human resources framework, moving beyond traditional labour relations to prioritise the holistic psychological well-being of its academic and administrative workforce.
Through recognising that the strength of a premier tertiary institution lies in the vitality of its personnel, MSUAS has integrated mental wellness as a cornerstone of its operational strategy.
The programme is specifically designed to address the unique pressures inherent in the higher education sector, including research-related stress, administrative burnout, and the emotional fatigue often associated with intensive academic engagement.
MSUAS acknowledges that a supportive work environment is not merely a benefit, but a prerequisite for innovation and world-class service delivery.
The programme is built upon three sustainable pillars; destigmatisation and awareness, professional work-life advocacy as well as comprehensive support systems mainly devised to provide a safe, confidential environment where employees can navigate personal and professional challenges without fear of prejudice and career challenges.
Central to the initiative, MSUAS Registered Psychologist, Tariro Munamati acknowledged the programme as instrumental in supporting employees’ mental health.
“Our mental well-being is the foundation upon which our professional excellence is built. I strongly encourage every member of the MSUAS workforce to step forward and utilise the support systems we have put in place,” said Munamati.
“Seeking assistance is not a sign of weakness, but a courageous step toward personal and institutional health. We are here to listen, to support, and to ensure that no one has to navigate their challenges alone.”
By championing the mental health of its workers, MSUAS reaffirms its dedication to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.
The initiative also positions the University as a leading employer of choice in Zimbabwe, demonstrating a sophisticated understanding that worker productivity and mental health are inseparably linked.
