MSUAS Hosts Vice Chancellor’s Research and Innovation Expo
Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) recently hosted the Vice Chancellor’s Research and Innovation Expo 2026 at its Fernhill Campus in Mutare, where the theme, “Pioneering Innovation for Sustainable Rural Industrialisation,” underscored the University’s vision of harnessing research and innovation to transform communities and drive sustainable economic growth.
The two-day Expo brought together MSUAS researchers, innovators, students, and industry stakeholders to showcase transformative ideas and practical solutions aimed at addressing real-world challenges.
In his address, MSUAS Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Upenyu Guyo described the Expo as a platform that celebrates creativity and demonstrates the MSUAS’ commitment to translating knowledge into practical solutions.
“This expo is more than an exhibition of projects and ideas, it is a celebration of creativity that highlights innovation as a catalyst for development and demonstrates a commitment to translating knowledge into solutions that improve lives, strengthen communities, and contribute to national development.
“Innovation is the determination to transform ideas into solutions that create value for society, and the University seeks to move beyond generating knowledge to translating that knowledge into technologies, products, services, and enterprises that advance sustainable development and national prosperity,” said Professor Guyo.
Professor Guyo further commended the exhibitors for their creativity and passion, urging innovators to refine their ideas, develop sustainable business models, build partnerships, and focus on creating solutions that generate value for society.
In his welcome remarks, MSUAS Executive Dean of Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Crispen Bhukuvhani, highlighted the dynamic nature of knowledge and the importance of research in solving contemporary challenges.
“Knowledge is tentative, with no permanent truths, because it is created to solve the problems of the day and must continually evolve as new challenges emerge and demand new solutions,” said Dr Bhukuvhani.
Dr. Bhukuvhani further noted that the expo seeks to bridge societal gaps by fostering practical solutions that improve lives and contribute to national development while strengthening MSUAS’ growing culture of research and innovation across diverse disciplines.
The Expo showcased an impressive array of research projects and innovative technologies designed to address contemporary challenges and unlock opportunities for communities and industry.
The innovations presented demonstrate the potential to create employment opportunities, increase productivity, stimulate exports, improve service delivery, and enhance the quality of life.
In his closing remarks, Executive Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Amon Isheunesu Chaka, commended participants for their creativity, dedication, commitment to research excellence, and encouraged innovators to continue transforming ideas into practical solutions that improve livelihoods and contribute to Zimbabwe’s development agenda.
The Vice Chancellor’s Research and Innovation Expo 2026 stands as a testament to MSUAS’s vision of becoming a leading institution in applied sciences, research, and innovation.
As the University celebrates a decade of academic excellence, the successful hosting of the Expo reinforces its commitment to driving sustainable rural industrialisation through knowledge creation, technology, and entrepreneurship while nurturing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.
