MSUAS PARTNERS WITH PROVINCIAL LEADERSHIP TO FRONTRUN DRUG AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE RESPONSE, MANICALAND PROVINCE, MUTARE
Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) has executed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Manicaland, establishing a unified front against drug and substance abuse across the province. Under this strategic alliance, MSUAS will deploy the specialised capabilities of its Department of Applied Psychology to deliver evidence-based interventions, clinical counselling, community rehabilitation frameworks, targeted training, and action-oriented research.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, MSUAS Vice Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda, affirmed that higher education must directly serve societal transformation. Driven by its core mandate of Excellence, Innovation, and Sustainable Development, MSUAS is mobilising its intellectual and scientific capital to tackle pressing community crises head-on.
This partnership marks a fundamental shift from punitive measures to evidence-based healing, targeting the psychological and socio-economic drivers of addiction among youth across Chipinge, Rusape, Mutare, and the wider region.
The agreement establishes a structured, multi-sectoral roadmap to restore safety, health, and economic productivity across Manicaland’s communities.
Together, we are securing the future of our youth.
