MSUAS Takes Mental Health Awareness to its Innovation and Agro-Industrial Park
Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) Health Department recently engaged staff members at the MSUAS Innovation and Agro- Industrial Park in Headlands on 16 October 2026 in a mental health awareness programme aimed at promoting psychological wellbeing and addressing challenges affecting workers.
The engagement followed the commemoration of World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2026 and focused on mental health disorders, intimate partner violence, gender-based violence and the importance of seeking professional support.
Higher and Tertiary Education Institutions Counsellors Commitee President 2027 to 2028 and MSUAS Counselling Psychologist, Tariro Munamati, highlighted the importance of open dialogue in addressing mental health challenges and promoting healthy relationships.
“Open discussions help people understand mental health challenges, challenge harmful behaviours and seek professional assistance in supportive environments without fear of judgement.
“Early intervention and access to appropriate support are essential in addressing mental health challenges and protecting the wellbeing of individuals and families,” said Munamati.
Munamati also encouraged staff members experiencing mental health difficulties or abuse to seek assistance rather than suffer in silence.
Participants raised concerns about increasing mental health challenges in the workplace, intimate partner violence linked to communication difficulties and limited awareness, as well as the underreporting of gender-based violence cases.
They also emphasised the need for greater awareness of referral pathways to help affected individuals access appropriate support.
As part of the action plan, MSUAS plans to work with its Human Resources Department to establish an online mental health support group by 1 November 2026.
The University also identified the need for a dedicated mental health telephone line and regular awareness sessions at the Agro-Industrial Park.
Through the initiative, MSUAS continues to promote mental health awareness, encourage early intervention and strengthen access to counselling services within its community.
